"Initially, I had never considered being an occupational therapist, however as I saw my grandfather progress with Parkinson’s disease, I started looking into healthcare careers. I loved that occupational therapy is a holistic profession that looks at the entire person and allows that person to set their own goals. I love that I can work on my patients' goals and help to achieve them. The best reward is when their face lights up after we have done something that they never thought possible. Looking back, my grandfather lived in a rural area that didn’t have as much access to inpatient therapy services, so I hope I can be the OT for someone else that he was looking for."
